Best stroller for tall child

Do you have the Bugaboo Bee plus, and not an older model? Have you remembered to extend the seat back height? Sometimes, using a seat liner or footmuff can push the extended backrest down, so you might need to place something at the back to secure it. Personally, I use a black rubber doorstop tip or trim a piece from an eraser for this purpose.

My son, who is about to turn three and is above the 100th percentile for height, still fits in the Bee plus. I can barely extend the hood over his head. Hence, if your child is younger and shorter, the extended seat back should ideally work for him too.

My son weighed 14kg at 12 months, 18kg at 24 months, and is now 19kg as he nears his third birthday. Your child might slim down with time, just as mine did, despite initial doubts!

Although the Bee plus supports up to 16.7kg, we manage fine. However, navigating through cobblestones can be challenging, and my son sometimes needs to walk. We mainly use it for nursery pick-ups or to give him a rest.

The Cameleon didn’t work for us. At 2.5 years old, his head surpassed the hood's top. Additionally, the chassis snapped when I tilted the buggy to mount a curb, rendering it uncollapsible.

The Mountain Buggy and City Mini Jogger were good, but their hoods were a bit low when collapsed. Therefore, always check the Bee’s backrest. It just fits my son, and I hope yours will get a couple of years’ use from it!

Top Strollers for Older Children (3-6 Years Old)

Choosing a stroller for a bigger child is distinct from picking one for a newborn or toddler. Your and your child's requirements have evolved.

Despite manufacturers boosting weight limits, many strollers aren't suited for taller kids as their height and needs aren’t considered. For instance, many renowned strollers barely fit my tall 2.5-year-old.

One might wonder:

Is a stroller necessary for older children?

Most likely, yes. However, usage will differ from before.

While some parents argue that kids older than three shouldn’t need strollers, others find them indispensable. My younger son avoided strollers since he was two. For short trips like playground visits, we didn't bring a stroller.

In places like France, we often relied on balance bikes and scooters. For our recent trip to Mexico, due to proximity to the beach and amenities, we didn’t bring a stroller.

Why Might You Need a Stroller for Big Kids?

Reasons vary, but often, it's for long distances or due to medical conditions.

On many European trips, we brought strollers as kids can’t walk tirelessly from morning to night. Those without strollers often shortened their trips due to tired kids.

At places like Universal Studios Orlando, a stroller was crucial. Without it, we’d end up carrying tired kids. Most likely, we'll do the same for future theme parks.

Additionally, many children need assistance walking due to medical conditions. A large regular stroller can be a cost-effective alternative to medical strollers.
