Lots of room in a C12 from old school until now. Unsure what you need or if a 13 or 14 works.
I know of no one that will have it on the shelf in any of these impact grades so prepare to buy a custom run.

For those who C12 carbide is weird you use it for building hammers and anvils. Think way softer but super tough C2.
It bends before it breaks or cracks if that makes any sense....How about takes a beating and keeps on ticking but I will show some serious wear around the edges...

Once there were at least 50 or more US suppliers of this type product. Now a handful. Somebody bought most of them and consolidated.

What are STB carbide blanks?

STB carbide blanks are precision-engineered components made from tungsten carbide. Tungsten carbide is a compound formed by combining tungsten and carbon atoms, resulting in an extremely hard material with exceptional wear resistance. These carbide blanks are typically used in the manufacturing industry for various applications such as tooling, machining, and wear parts.

The STB in STB carbide blanks stands for Straight Grade with a Tungsten Carbide Binder. This grade offers a balance of hardness and toughness, making it ideal for a wide range of manufacturing processes. Whether you need to drill, cut, mill, or shape materials, STB carbide blanks provide the strength and durability required for precision machining.

The benefits of using STB carbide blanks

There are several advantages to using STB carbide blanks from TUNGSTEN MAN. Let’s explore some of the key benefits:

1. Exceptional hardness: STB carbide blanks have an incredibly high hardness rating, second only to diamonds. This hardness allows them to withstand the most demanding machining applications without wearing down or losing their cutting edge. Whether you’re working with tough alloys or abrasive materials, STB carbide blanks will maintain their performance, ensuring consistent results and minimizing downtime.

2. Superior strength: In addition to their hardness, STB carbide blanks offer exceptional strength. This strength comes from the tungsten carbide binder, which holds the carbide particles together. The binder gives the blanks the necessary rigidity and toughness to withstand high cutting forces, ensuring they remain intact and perform reliably even under extreme conditions.

3. Outstanding wear resistance: One of the main advantages of STB carbide blanks is their excellent wear resistance. Thanks to the hardness and strength of tungsten carbide, these blanks can withstand prolonged use without significant wear. This translates to longer tool life, reduced tool replacement costs, and increased productivity. Whether you’re machining abrasive materials or performing high-speed cutting, STB carbide blanks will keep performing at their best.

4. Precision and dimensional stability: STB carbide blanks are known for their exceptional dimensional stability. This means that they maintain their shape and size even under extreme heat and pressure. This precision allows for consistent and accurate machining, resulting in high-quality finished products. Whether you’re creating intricate parts or performing repetitive machining tasks, STB carbide blanks will deliver the precision you need.

5. Heat resistance: STB carbide blanks have excellent heat resistance, making them suitable for high-speed machining and applications that generate significant heat. The combination of tungsten carbide and the binder allows the blanks to dissipate heat effectively, preventing the material from softening or deforming. This heat resistance ensures consistent performance and extends the tool life, reducing the need for frequent tool changes.

Comparison of STB carbide blanks to other carbide materials

When it comes to carbide blanks, there are various options available. Let’s compare STB carbide blanks to other commonly used carbide materials:

1. STB carbide blanks vs. C2 carbide blanks: C2 carbide blanks are another popular choice in the industry. While they offer good performance, they are not as hard or wear-resistant as STB carbide blanks. STB carbide blanks provide superior hardness, strength, and wear resistance, making them a more reliable option for demanding machining applications.

2. STB carbide blanks vs. C5 carbide blanks: C5 carbide blanks are known for their high wear resistance. However, they are not as hard as STB carbide blanks, which can lead to faster wear and reduced tool life. STB carbide blanks offer a perfect balance of hardness, strength, and wear resistance, making them an excellent choice for a wide range of applications.

3. STB carbide blanks vs. coated carbide blanks: Coated carbide blanks have a thin layer of coating applied to the surface to enhance their performance. While coated carbide blanks can provide some benefits, they are not as durable as STB carbide blanks. The coating can wear off over time, reducing the effectiveness of the blanks. STB carbide blanks, on the other hand, offer inherent hardness and wear resistance, without the need for additional coatings.

The manufacturing process of STB carbide blanks

The manufacturing process of STB carbide blanks involves several steps to ensure their quality and performance. Let’s take a closer look at how these blanks are made:

1. Powder preparation: The first step in the manufacturing process is the preparation of the tungsten carbide powder. Tungsten carbide powder is made by mixing tungsten and carbon powders in specific proportions. This mixture is then heated in a controlled environment to form tungsten carbide particles.

2. Blending: Once the tungsten carbide powder is prepared, it is blended with a binder material, typically cobalt or nickel. The binder material acts as a binder, holding the tungsten carbide particles together and providing the necessary toughness and strength to the blanks.

3. Compaction: The blended powder is then compacted using high-pressure presses. This compaction process ensures that the powder is densely packed, forming a solid mass. The compaction pressure and duration are carefully controlled to achieve the desired density and uniformity.

4. Sintering: The compacted blanks are then subjected to a high-temperature sintering process. During sintering, the blanks are heated in a furnace to a temperature just below the melting point of the binder material. This allows the binder material to melt and bond the tungsten carbide particles together, forming a solid and cohesive structure.

5. Grinding and finishing: After sintering, the blanks undergo grinding and finishing processes to achieve the desired dimensions and surface finish. This ensures that the blanks meet the required tolerances and surface quality for precision machining applications.
