What makes a liquid corrosive?

Class 8: Corrosive Substances

Corrosive substances are liquids or solids that cause full-thickness destruction of the skin at the site of contact within a specified period of time. A liquid that has a severe corrosion rate on steel or aluminum is also a corrosive material.

For more information, please visit our website.

To meet the DOT definition of Hazard Class 8 corrosive materials are any substances with a pH of 2.0 or less (extreme acid hazard) or a pH of 12.5 or greater (extreme base hazard).

Examples include nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, and sulfuric acid.

Corrosive Liquids

Viscosity: 20cst
Typical SG: 01.5

Corrosive liquids are acids, alkalis, bases and caustic solutions which corrode elements such as metal. Examples of such liquids are sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid, chromic acid, nitric acid, acetic acid, and hydrochloric acid. Examples of caustic bases include ammonium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, and sodium hydroxide. Great care is needed with such liquids due to their volatility and corrosiveness which can react with inert liquids such as water dangerously causing immediate foaming during transfer.

North Ridge can assist you with corrosive liquid pumps by offering pumps with the following features:

Full containment &#; Ensuring zero chance of leakage, with zero maintenance required of wetted parts.

ATEX &#; Suitable for ATEX zones if not situated within a safe area.

For more information, please visit Mingfeng.

Leakage sensors &#; To enable pumps to be stopped immediately if critical parts become damaged. Liquid can be fully contained even though part has been damaged with full recovery of product without contamination.

Slow rpm  - reducing the risk of splashing and harm during dosing or transfer

Low pressure &#; Ensuring equipment is not pressurized with dangerous chemicals unless required.

Seal containment &#; If a seal is required a barrier fluid can be used for containment of acids, as well as seal flushing to minimize risk of seal damage.

Sized for your process - We can build drum pumps for corrosive liquids specifically to your containers dimensions meaning a plug and play install.
